It was reported in the days leading up to the CrossFit Invitational that Sara Sigmundsdottir was dealing with flu-like symptoms. There was even talk that Team Europe’s coach, Sam Briggs, might have to step in for the Icelandic Games veteran.
Sigmundsdottir was able to return to join her team on Friday and get some practice in with the Worm. But once the competition came on Sunday, Sigmundsdottir was not well after the first event. In a lengthy Instagram post, Sigmundsdottir said she was “nauseous, dizzy and shaking so much” as the team prepared for the second event, the handstand walk obstacle course.
Sigmundsdottir was unable to complete the obstacle course in the two-minute time cap, which can now be attributed to her illness. She continued by saying, “I tried to push trough it but I was WAY OFF and my team suffered because of it. I am devastated to have let them down. We had such good team morale and would have given anything to be 100% and kicking ass with them.”
