Sigmundsdottir Leads Strength In Depth Sanctional After Day 1

Heading into the weekend, Sara Sigmundsdottir and Jamie Greene were the two favorites to take the London-based Sanctional, Strength In Depth. After four events on Day 1, Sigmundsdottir holds a 20-point lead over Greene. Dani Speegle sits in 3rd.

The first event was the CrossFit Open’s 19.1 workout. Sigmundsdottir blitzed the field finishing with 350 reps, or just over 9 full rounds. Greene and Speegle tied with 330 reps.

The second event was a 10-round triplet of 4 bar muscle-ups, 8-meter unbroken handstand walk and 12 hang dumbbell snatches. This time Greene held off Sigmundsdottir and Speegle.

Events 3 and 4 were back-to-back with just one minute rest between. Athletes started with three attempts to find a 1RM snatch in Event 3. A minute later, athletes raced through 20 calories on the Assault Bike and 30 clean and jerks (or Grace).

Dani Speegle won Event 3 after hitting a 100kg (220 lbs) snatch. Sigmundsdottir took 2nd with a 95kg snatch. Greene only hit 80kg, good for 5th in the event.

Minutes later, Sigmundsdottir displayed her power on the Assault Bike and with a heavy barbell. Sigmundsdottir went touch-and-go the entire way for her second event win of the day. Greene took 2nd while Speegle finished 4th.

Standings after Day 1:
1) Sara Sigmundsdottir (388)
2) Jamie Greene (368)
3) Dani Speegle (366)
4) Emma McQuaid (324)
5) Jessica Griffith (304)
