Dave Castro joined the Boys Interrupted podcast late last week and the video was published on YouTube yesterday afternoon. Over the course of an hour the trio discussed numerous topics ranging from Syndicate Crown predictions, CrossFit Games programming, the marathon row and the sale of CrossFit.
Cale Layman’s CrossFit Open scores were also brought up. Jayson Hopper asked Castro his thoughts on Layman’s scores to which Castro replied, “I’ll say this…the situation is ongoing. Like, it’s not over. We’re looking into it all.”
But like the great investigative reporter he is, Hopper did not let Castro off with that simple answer. Hopper dug in, “What does that mean that the situation is still ongoing? Can you fill us in with some details?”
“Not with details,” Castro answered. “But I’ll say we are clearly looking into it and talking to people and looking at the whole picture of everything that happened and what’s going on and been in communication with him. Again, I’m not going to get into too many of the details here, but we heard and we saw what’s going on and we are taking a look at it all.”
For those who have been under a rock or just missed this somehow, Cale Layman finished 5th in the 2025 CrossFit Open. He followed that up with a 20th place finish at the Mayhem Classic where he finished last on every event.
Shortly after, like right after, Andrew Hiller started to question the validity of Layman’s Open scores.
If you want a play-by-play of the entire saga, I recommend you go back and read my article, “Cale Layman Nukes Instagram Account As CrossFit Begins Inquiry into His Open Scores” from April 24.
Layman has since reactivated his Instagram account, but has not made a new post since April 7.
Because of Layman’s Open placement, he qualified for this past weekend’s Syndicate Crown. While he registered after the Open, he did not make it onto the competition floor.
As for the investigation by CrossFit, it’s hard to figure out what is taking so long. Either he did the workouts or he didn’t. Grant, aka Kipping It Real, dug into the situation months ago and contacted the CrossFit gym’s owner for security footage of Layman doing the Open workouts…to which there were none.
