The Rogue Invitational is Breaking Out the Guns!

When the Muscle-up Biathlon was announced at the CrossFit Games in 2014 was announced, many were hoping for a true biathlon with a gun. Instead, Dave Castro implemented a penalty lap when athletes broke up their sets of muscle-ups, similar to a biathlon where an athlete must ski a penalty loop when they miss a shot/target with their rifle.

The Rogue Invitational, however, is breaking out the guns! The first announced event will feature the Concept 2 SkiErg and an Air Rifle with targets. The event will be the first event of the final day, Sunday May 19.

Details of the event have not yet been released other than athletes will be required to shoot an air rifle at a target 10 meters away from both standing and prone positions. Missed targets will result in a penalty, likely similar to the Olympic Biathlon.

With the announcement, Rogue included an intro to the Olympic biathlon along with several “how-to” videos on how to use an air rifle.

The Rogue Invitational is one of the CrossFit Sanctional events this season. The online qualifier just wrapped up and some familiar names are in the top 10. Athletes like Travis Mayer, Streat Hoerner, Adrian Mundwiler, Brooke Haas and Dani Speegle were in the top 10.

The Rogue Invitational is a two-day competition on May 18-19 in Columbus, Ohio.
