It’s official! Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr will compete at the 2025 CrossFit Games. Tia made the “announcement” via an Instagram post published this afternoon.
In that video, Tia is talking about how hard the decision was on whether to compete when PRVN CEO Nic Johnston interrupts her to tell her there are only 37 days until the CrossFit Games.
Tia responds with, “This is gonna hurt like a mother f*cker.” #ChasingEight
Entering this year there were questions on whether the 7-time CrossFit Games champion would actually compete in 2025. After focusing on HYROX after the 2024 CrossFit Games, we learned that Tia had not touched a barbell until the CrossFit Open.
She would go on to finish the Open, ending up in 144th overall in the world. While not where we typically expect to see Tia in the Open, it was enough to finish in the top 1% and leave the door open to make a run at the 2025 CrossFit Games.
Tia would continue her HYROX training, again leaving doubts on whether she would purse an eight Games title. Tia skipped the In-Affiliate Semifinals, but then did confirm she would be competing at Torian Pro.
However, her announcement that she was competing was vague such that people didn’t know if she was going to retire at Torian, decline an invite if she qualified…or accept it and compete at the CrossFit Games.
Well, Tia won five of the six scored events at Torian Pro and earned a qualifying spot to the CrossFit Games. But would she accept?
Even Dave Castro in his Week In Review addressed the question and said he had given Tia a deadline to accept her invite. He did not, however, say when that deadline was.
Then two weekends ago Tia competed at the 2025 HYROX World Championships… something she had been training for all year. She was slated to compete in two race. Unfortunately, she became ill in the week leading up to Worlds and she was not able to perform how she wanted. She even dropped out of the Women’s Pro Doubles with Joanna Wietrzyk.
But with this afternoon’s announcement, it’s official. The 30 athlete field for the women is set and Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr will be gunning for her eighth CrossFit Games title in Albany, New York.
The 2025 CrossFit Games will be held at MVP Arena on August 1-3.
