Dave Castro announced weeks ago that the field of 140 + athletes would be cut down to 75 after Event 1, which would not only separate the athletes from a top and bottom tier, but would threaten those athletes who may have a few weaknesses in Event 1.
Among the top tier, Games veterans Tim Paulson, Paul Castillo and Streat Hoerner fell below the cut line. Canadian Jean-Simon Roy-Lemaire also will not move on past the first event. What we did not know until a few hours ago is there would be another cut after the second individual event. The field will likely be cut down to 50 after Event 2.
With 40 individual athletes in every Games before 2019, it’s safe to say that Castro will likely get the field back to that number heading into Day 3.
Stay tuned for the details on Event 2 and end-to-end coverage of the CrossFit Games!
