UPDATE: Marcha van Glaanen Weygel Disqualified from Masters CrossFit Games

Earlier this week we reported that Masters athlete Marcha van Glaanen Weygel had failed a drug test back in 2021 during the European Masters Weightlifting Championships. Following the failed test, Weygel received a four-year sanction from the International Masters Weightlifting Association (IMWA) that is in effect through October 17, 2025.

The 2024 CrossFit Games Drug Test Policy states that athletes may sanction athletes who have violated drug policies of other anti-doping organizations. In this case, Weygel had qualified to compete at the 2024 Masters CrossFit Games in the 55-59 year-old division.

Now, three days after our original reporting, CrossFit has informed Weygel that she will not be able to compete at the Masters CrossFit Games. Her name has also been removed from the leaderboard on the CrossFit Games site, leaving only 29 women.

All of the top 30 women accepted their original invite, which means that Theresa Harris will likely get the opportunity to backfill Weygel’s spot at the Games.

The 2024 Masters CrossFit Games is August 29 through September 2 in Birmingham, Alabama. The top athletes ages 35 and older will compete to win their age group division.
