When Exactly is Tia Retiring?

Entering the 2025 CrossFit Games season there were questions on whether Tia-Clair Toomey-Orr would compete. With her venture into HYROX in December and comments that she had gone months without touching a barbell, it begged the question on whether the 7-time Fittest Woman on Earth would go for an 8th title.

Toomey-Orr kept her options open, however, by finishing inside the top 1% worldwide in the CrossFit Open. But as she said on the PRVN Podcast released this morning, Tia shared her thoughts behind participating in the community-based event, “I’m going to do the Open for what it is and that’s the community. It’s to reach our community, you know. Let’s bring some positivity back into the sport of it.”

On March 4, Torian Pro confirmed that Toomey-Orr had accepted her invite to compete as a former champion.

Then yesterday, Tia released this on Instagram…

“This time it’s my moment to say goodbye to this chapter,” explained Toomey-Orr.

The clip was part of a longer 11-minute video published on YouTube.

In classic Tia fashion, however, the statement wasn’t black and white. Does she mean Torian Pro will be her last CrossFit competition? Will she compete at the 2025 CrossFit Games if she qualifies? Would she accept an invite to compete at the Rogue Invitational this year?

None of those questions were technically answered.

Then the PRVN Podcast came out this morning. The title, “TIA CLAIR TOOMEY TALKS 2025”.

Oh, okay, I bet we get some clarification in his HOUR LONG podcast.

After listening, I’m not so sure.

First, we did get a glimpse into her journey into HYROX. It really sounds like Tia did the first HYROX in December with James Newbury to have fun. But after doing well (they qualified for the World Championships) and seeing the atmosphere at a HYROX race, Tia was intrigued.

And then CrossFit announced its season structure for 2025…

“The CrossFit season was all online and I was like ‘Ah like not happy’,” shared Tia. “I’m all about competing in-person as opposed to competing, you know, in behind closed doors. As soon as that kind of came out I was like, alright, I’m doing HYROX.”

While there are technically more opportunities to compete in-person during the 2025 CrossFit Games season (and something they later spoke about), it appears that Tia’s initial reaction to the structure and feeling it was all online pushed her to reconsider her plans for the upcoming year.

So Tia did more HYROX races and qualified for Worlds in another division with the up-and-coming elite HYROX athlete, Joanna Wietrzyk.

Finally, about 45 minutes into the podcast Tia and Shane begin to talk about prepping for Torian Pro at the end of May while still giving it her all for the HYROX World Championships one month later.

And then at the 50-minute mark…

Wait, what? Did I just hear Tia talk about the CrossFit Games?

“Then when you think about the CrossFit Games now. That is a whole another one. So from [HYROX] Worlds to the CrossFit Games is 45 days…so it’s like, damn, like that’s not a whole lot of time because I’m not prepared to slow my speed down for Worlds.”

What…the…heck?

So is Tia going to compete in Albany at the CrossFit Games?

She then leaves the door open even more at the 55-minute mark when speaking about Torian Pro, “It’s only fitting to celebrate in front of a home crowd…I want my family, my friends, my Aussie crowd to be there to celebrate with me. Whatever the future holds.”

WHATEVER THE FUTURE HOLDS???
