The Boston Iron started the season with many expectations, internally and externally, but after losing a heartbreaking first match against the New York Rhinos there was concern the Iron might miss the playoffs. They then faced the buzzsaw that is DC Brawlers. After another loss, things looked bleak for the Iron. However, after the Baltimore Anthem upset the Rhinos in Week 2, the Iron still had a chance to squeak into the playoffs.
Needing a win against the Anthem, a Rhinos loss (against the Brawlers) and a strong performance relative to the other teams, the Iron had an outside chance to win the tiebreaker against the Anthem and Rhinos, all at 1-2.

The Iron started out red hot from the outset against the Anthem. Starting out with a Race 1 victory, the Iron pushed the Anthem in Race 2 and forced a Non-Complete. They continued the trend by sweeping both the women’s and men’s echos. The Iron wouldn’t let up from there as they continued their domination through the first ten races, winning each one. The Anthem were finally able to notch a victory in Race 11, but by then it was too late to matter.
The Iron’s impressive victory gave them hope, but they would have to wait and watch for the outcome of the Rhinos’ match. Fortunately, for the Iron, the Brawlers put on another clinic and between the Rhinos easily. Following the match, the tiebreaker was used and the Iron had made the playoffs.
