The DC Brawlers continued their dominance in the NPGL. After losing Race 1 by a split second, the Brawlers rattled off nine consecutive race victories and securing the match win. The Iron won the final two races, but it was a little too late. The Brawlers remain undefeated and have never lost a match in the three seasons of the NPGL. The Iron’s loss puts them 0-2 and in jeopardy of missing the playoffs in a year of high expectations.

After tying the match in Race 2, Mirror, the Brawler women stepped on the gas pedal, led by Ingrid Kantola. Kantola’s four rope climbs outpaced the Iron setting up Alexandra LaChance and Taylar Stallings to knock out the 40 snatches. In Race 4, the second of the women’s Echo races, the exhausted Iron were unable to finish within the 30-second time cap following the Brawlers’ finish. The 0-point score for the Iron set the tone for the rest of the match.

The Brawler men picked up where the women left off on their way to back-to-back Echo wins followed by a 3-point pickup on the Ladder, Race 7. At this point, the Brawlers led 14-6 and were almost mathematically locked in to win. After a narrow victory in Race 8, the Brawlers had secured the victory. The Iron, however, continued to fight and were able to win Races 10 and 11, but it was not enough.

With very few weak spots, the Brawlers looked dominant in all aspects of the match. From bodyweight movements to Quadrant 4 strength elements, the Brawlers are the team to beat yet again this season. With the addition of Alexandra LaChance and Vinny Casey, the stacked Brawlers have only lost three races during their first two matches.

The Boston Iron, on the other hand, entered the season with expectations of making it to the NPGL finals, but after a heartbreaking loss against the New York Rhinos and never making it competitive against the Brawlers, the Iron face an uphill battle to make it into the playoffs. The Iron will have to beat the Anthem and have the Rhinos lose to the Brawlers to make a three-way tie at 1-2. If that happens, it will come down to the individual race times as the tiebreaker.
