The Miami Surge and Los Angeles Reign entered their match needing a victory after Week 1 losses. The Surge started strong and put the pressure on the Reign men during the Echos. After two Non-Complete races, the Surge held a comfortable lead heading into the back half of the races.

The Surge never let up and won easily, 21-12, only losing two races throughout the match. The Surge’s men’s trio of Nick Urankar, Marco Coppola and Travis Williams are one of the best in the league and it showed Tuesday night. The Surge shut out the Reign on races 5 and 6 and also won Race 9, Men’s Triad.
The Los Angeles Reign completely overhauled their roster during the offseason and have 13 rookies, the most of any team. This lack of experience has hurt the Reign in their first two matches as mistakes have cost them time and time again.
There were some bright spots for the Reign. During Race 2, Mirror, the Reign were able to outpace the Surge on the heavy thrusters. Rookie Kelly Wild and Emily Tanner made the thrusters look easy on their way to victory. The Reign were also able to take a victory in Race 11 after speedy double-unders by veteran Sarah Pierce and quick burpees to 10-foot ring by Dylan McGuire.
With the loss, the Reign sit in last place in the Western conference and have been eliminated from making the playoffs. The Surge have kept their playoff hopes alive and it will come down to their final regular season match against the San Francisco Fire. A win and the Surge are in; a loss and their offseason begins.
