A week ago, Emma McQuaid was wrapping up the 2022 Rogue Invitational with Heavy Grace. And less than a week later, McQuaid returned to Ireland and competed at The Ulster Open Championships.
McQuaid, 32, competed in the 71kg weight category at the Olympic Weightlifting competition in Belfast, Northern Ireland. McQuaid would not just compete, but would break three Olympic Weightlifting Irish National Records.
McQuaid would lift 82kg in the Snatch and 104kg in the Clean & Jerk for a 186kg total, all Irish National Records. Both the Snatch and Clean & Jerk were 1kg records while the total was 4kg better than the previous high mark.
“I’m delighted with this result, the Rogue competition this year was one of the toughest events I’ve ever physically competed in and that’s not great preparation for an Olympic weightlifting competition,’ commented McQuaid. “To be able to turn around and execute on the platform following a week like that is amazing and I think bodes really well for the future, I hadn’t touched a barbell all week so it was either going to go well or it wasn’t!”
Weightlifting Ireland’s YouTube page livestreamed the competition. We have shared all of McQuaid’s lifts below…
