George Sterner is only 17-years-old. He will turn 18 between now and the CrossFit Games, which means he is competing in the Men’s Open division and not the Teen 16-17 division.

Sterner isn’t letting his age define his abilities though. On 17.3, Sterner posted the 5th best time in the world beating some of the biggest names in CrossFit. Sterner was able to complete the workout featuring three 265-pound squat snatches in 18:17.

Through three weeks of the Open, Sterner sits in 18th worldwide and 3rd in the North Central region. For comparison, Patrick Vellner is 12th and Ben Smith is 77th worldwide. Sterner’s worst finish was in 17.1 where he placed 189th in the world, but since then he has only improved.

Sterner competed in the Crossfit Teens 16-17 division last year, finishing in 2nd place behind Nicholas Paladino, who has also moved up to the Open division. Paladino is 152nd worldwide after struggling a bit on 17.3.
