Yesterday, the Masters Qualifier events were released. The top 200 athletes worldwide in the Open will be completing the four events this weekend with the top 20 in event age group advancing to the CrossFit Games in July.
Let’s take a look at the workouts.
Event 1
21-15-9 reps for time of:
Row for calories
Thrusters (95# / 65#)
This is similar to last year’s 15.5 Open workout, except it’s even more of a burner as the round of 27 has been removed. This will be fast and will hurt – a lot.
Event 2
1RM Deadlift
At the 2014 CrossFit Games, the Masters divisions had a 1RM deadlift ladder. During that event, Jerome Perryman (Men’s 40-44) deadlifted 535-pounds and David Walters (Men’s 60+) deadlifted 455-pounds! Big weight will go up, but will anyone beat those totals from 2014?
Event 3
AMRAP 15-minutes
55 double-unders
15 chest-to-bar pull-ups
5 hang power cleans (155# / 105#)
This will be a long, grueling grip-intensive workout. It will come down to being able to hang onto the bar the back half of the workout and going unbroken on the power cleans.
Event 4
For Time:
55 burpees
34 overhead squats (95# / 65#)
21 muscle-ups
Here is the technical skill-based workout. Which masters athletes have the mobility to do the overhead squats and the muscle-ups? While the other three workouts will create separation, this could destroy fit individuals who aren’t proficient at muscle-ups or are limited by mobility restrictions.
