The 2016 CrossFit Team Series registration starts today, August 16 with the first week’s workouts beginning September 6. The 4-member (2 men & 2 women) teams will be competing for a $151,000 prize purse, the same as the two previous years.
This year, however, the top 15 teams overall (Open division, Rx’d) will be awarded prize money compared to the top 10 in the prior years. The top 3 teams will still receive the same amount last year ($30,000 for 1st, $25,000 for 2nd & $20,000 for 3rd). After that, however, the prize money goes down compared to last year.
Take a look at the comparison between this year and the previous.

While a few non-sponsored teams busted into the top 10 last year to claim prize money, most of the awards went to sponsored super teams. In 2015, 11th – 15th were all affiliate teams so the expansion of payouts to the top 15 will likely benefit affiliate teams. The top 3 teams, however, were all super teams consisting of current and former Games athletes.
Last year 2,858 teams registered for the Team Series competition and paid entry fees in excess of $234,000. Over 400 teams (14% of the total teams and entry fees) registered for the competition yet never submitted a score.
