The number of athletes competing at the 2019 CrossFit Games different than any previous year in the modern Games era, we have all been waiting to see how the scoring tables would change. With nearly 150 men and women competing and only 14 teams, the scoring tables from last year based on 40 athletes/teams no longer worked.

This afternoon, CrossFit released the scored tables that will be used in less than two weeks. The only thing is we still don’t know how many events the individuals and teams will face throughout the weekend, nor do we know when the field will be cut (after Event 1).

For individuals, there are seven different scoring tables as the field is reduced from Event 1 down to 75, 50, 40, 30, 20 and ultimately 10 athletes. Unlike last year’s scoring table, this year the scoring does not award 1st place as much. Rather than a big point spread for the first 5 spots, the point spread is essentially the same from 1st all the way down to last place.

This eliminates the huge reward for the “home run” event.

The scoring table for the final 10 athletes will provide the opportunity for huge swings. 1st place is still worth 100 points, but 10th place only gets 10 points. Those 90 points for one event against the top 10 in the world could make Sunday (or a portion of Sunday) very exciting!

This year only 14 teams will be competing in Madison. And while we knew there would be at least one cut to the field, we did not have the details…until now.

The teams will be cut down four times throughout the four-day competition until there are 5 teams left. And if you think individuals could face big point swings, wait until you see the teams! On the 5-team scoring table, 1st place gets 100 points while 5th place racks up 0 (ZERO) points.

The release of the scoring tables comes just 13 days before the start of the 2019 CrossFit Games. This will be a year unlike any year we have every seen. No one (or team) is safe on Sunday. We could be just weeks away from the most exciting CrossFit Games finish, or finishes, in Games history!
