Day 1 of Wodapalooza, I mean Wetapalooza, was definitely interesting. Who would have imagined working out in a downpour all day? Luckily, the rain stopped before the evening and the night events were much more dry.
Let’s take a look at the standings of the Elite Individual and Team competitions.
Elite Men
Noah Ohlsen, the 2015 Champion, came out strong a took first place in the first event, Big Chipper. He followed up with 11th place in the Little Chipper and ended up in 1st place two points ahead of Alex Anderson. Going into the second day, it’s still wide open eight athletes within 20 points of 1st place.
- Noah Ohlsen – 169 points
- Alex Anderson – 167 points
- Cole Sager – 165 points
- Spender Hendel – 158 points
- Jacob Anderson – 156 points
Elite Women
With last year’s champ, Sam Briggs, not competing this year, 2016 will bring in a new champion. But unlike the men, there’s much more separation at the top. Brooke Wells took 1st in the Big Chipper and followed up with a 2nd place finish in the Little Chipper to take a 20 point lead over Tasia Percevecz. If you aren’t familiar with Percevecz, she took 4th place in the North East region during the 2015 CrossFit Open and followed up with a 12th place ranking in the East Regional.
- Brooke Wells – 195 points
- Tasia Percevecz – 175 points
- Natalie Newhart – 168 points
- Emily Bridgers – 154 points
- Nicole Holcomb – 154 points
Elite Men Team
Day 1 ended up with a somewhat unexpected trio on top of the leaderboard. If you follow MisFit Athletics you are probably familiar with these CrossFit Regional athletes on CrossFit Shrewsberry, but if not, Trevor James, Corey Lunney and Anthony Vasquez were all Regional athletes in 2015. CF Shrewsberry took 3rd place in both Team Chipper events and are tied in first place with RX Smart Gear 2.0 consisting of Nick Urankar, Wes Piatt and Julian Alcaraz.
What you probably didn’t expect to see is the team currently in 14th. Rich Froning’s Freedom Men finished in 33rd in the second event, Little Chipper Team, dropping them from 5th after one event down to 14th.
