When Mat Fraser completed 17.3 in 17:47 during the Open announcement very few expected it to be beat. Maybe Rich Froning or Ben Smith could challenge Fraser’s time, but it would be close.
Then Jeff Evans came in and posted early with 17:29. That time seemed unreachable.
But then at the submission deadline, Ben Smith’s name appeared at the top of the 17.3 rankings. With a time of 17:17, Smith took the best time worldwide. Smith now sits in 77th worldwide after three Open workouts and is tied for 2nd in the Mid Atlantic.
