In a very surprising announcement, 17.4 will feature the 2016 CrossFit Games 6th place finisher, Brooke Wells, and the 2016 Fittest Woman in Latin America, Brenda Castro (here’s her Instagram). The announcement show will be in Mexico City, Mexico, and it will be the first announcement show where one of the featured athletes is not a CrossFit Games veteran.
Castro finished 96th in the 2016 worldwide CrossFit Open and 1st in Latin America. She advanced to the South Regional where she finished 42nd after withdrawing after Saturday. Castro’s best finish was 19th during Regional Nate.
The location will present a challenge to both athletes as Mexico City’s altitude could impact both athletes’ stamina. The two athletes square off on Thursday, March 16.
Brenda’s stats on the Games site include a 220-pound clean & jerk, 180-pound snatch and 45 unbroken pull-ups.
