We all expected names like Mat Fraser, Noah Ohlsen and Travis Mayer to be near the top of the leaderboard on 17.5. However, one name probably no one (other than this guy’s training partners) expected to see near the top of the leaderboard is German Castro.
Castro had 290 points in the Latin American region after 17.4 and was well outside of the points that will be required to make the top 10 and advance to the South Regional. However, 17.5 appears to be in Castro’s wheelhouse.
Castro knocked out the double-unders with lightning speed and was able to keep up his speed on the thrusters to post a time of 6:29, second only to Mat Fraser with a few hours left to submit scores.
Watch the video below…you’ll think it was Irving Hernandez if his shirt didn’t say Castro. Fast forward to 1:29 if you want to skip the video introduction/barbell setup video.

This is just another reason that the CrossFit Open is so exciting…we get to find these athletes who showcase some unreal abilities!
