For those who have been following CrossFit since 2010 or are big fans of the sport’s history, Thursday night’s first event in the Coliseum was awesome. Bringing back a beefed up Amanda for the first event in the Coliseum was the perfect event.
Back in 2010 when the Sport of CrossFit moved from Aromas to Carson (then the Home Depot Center), the first event that year was Amanda. That year, however, ring muscle-ups and squat snatches were anything but a given like they were this year. Athletes in 2010 struggled with the 135-pound snatches and ring muscle-ups were tough.

To see how far the athletes have come in just 7 years is quite remarkable. Now, instead of just doing 9-7-5 of ring muscle-ups and squat snatches Castro added two rounds (13-11), more than doubling the work required. Dubbed Amanda .45, the athletes had to do 13-11-9-7-5 of the once near impossible couplet.
I was not in the Tennis Stadium in 2010, but I was in the Coliseum in 2017. Knowing how special Amanda was back then makes being there in 2017 so awesome. Seven years down the road when Castro (or someone) makes an even more tougher version of Amanda, I can say I was there when Amanda .45 looked hard.
