Emily Carothers competed at the CrossFit Games in 2013 and 2014 finishing in 23rd and 13th, respectively. Following her strong performance at the 2014 Games, Carothers was expected to make a big splash in 2015.
But after finishing 9th in the North West region in the 2015 Open, Carothers declined her invite to compete at Regionals, citing personal reasons. Since that time, Carothers had faded out of the CrossFit Games spotlight.
Then on the first episode (released yesterday) of Chris Spealler’s new podcast, Icon Athlete, Pat Sherwood casually mentioned that his girlfriend, Emily, competed at the 2013 and 2014 Games, qualified for regionals in 2015 but declined her invite just set five PRs in one week following Spealler’s Icon Athlete programming.
A quick look at Emily Carothers’ Instagram page shows that she just set five PRs over the past two weeks following Icon Athlete programming. Aside from liking social media posts, there appears to only be one Instagram post of Sherwood and Carothers together.
It’s unclear if the couple was trying to keep the relationship under wraps, but it’s not a secret any more.
