Predicting 16.4

Three down, two to go. Last week, we guessed the time domain (7-minutes), but swung and missed on the movements. With only two weeks left in the CrossFit Open, the leaderboard is taking shape and for those athletes on the cusp of making Regionals, this week is a crucial moment.

With only one of Dave Castro’s very helpful hints (so far), let’s see if we can’t figure out what Katrin Davidsdottir and Sara Sigmundsdottir will face at this week’s Open Announcement.

What We’ve Seen What We’ve Yet to See
Bar Facing Burpee Box Jump
Bar Muscle-Up Clean and Jerk
Chest-to-Bar Pull-Up Deadlift
Double-Under Handstand Push-Up
Overhead Lunge (new movement) Ring Muscle-Up
Power Snatch Overhead Squat
Squat Clean Row
 Toes-to-Bar Shoulder-to-Overhead
Wall Ball

With another new movement, bar muscle-ups, added last week, there are still a lot of typical Open movements yet to be seen. We’re guessing that because bar muscle-ups have been programmed, we won’t see ring muscle-ups this year. And the current rumor is that 16.5 will be a repeat of 16.5, a couplet of thrusters and row. If that’s the case, there are still a lot of movements available for 16.4.

Before we get into our prediction, here are what some of the top athletes and coaches are thinking we will see this week.

Talayna Fortunato (7th in the South East)
“Row, Handstand Push-ups and Wall Ball”

Melissa Doss (21st in the Central East)
“Wall balls, thrusters and hopefully some ring muscle-ups”

Sarabeth Phillips (4th in the South East)
“I’m hoping for handstand push-ups and some heavy weight.”

Seth Youmfer (Coach of Misfit Athletics)
“I have no idea. I think I know how 16.5a and b is going to go. But next week will probably have handstand push-ups. That’s all I can guess.”

Jared Enderton (23rd in the South West)
10-min AMRAP
10 Handstand Push-ups
10 Deadlifts (225#)
10 Box Jumps

Sheila Barden (9th in the North Central)
10-min AMRAP
Wall Balls
Handstand Push-ups

The Barbell Spin Prediction
12-min AMRAP
50 Wall Ball
40 Deadlift
30 Handstand Push-up
20 Overhead Squat
