Roman Khrennikov has received bad news again this year. For the second straight year Khrennikov has been denied a request for a visa to travel to the United States to compete at the CrossFit Games.

Khrennikov shared the news with his fans today and thanked them for their support. We asked Khrennikov if he had been given a reason for his application getting denied. He responded with, “No.”

Khrennikov is just one of three Russian athletes to qualify for the 2019 CrossFit Games. Alexandr Ilin and Anastasiya Ganina are also scheduled to compete in Madison. Ganina confirmed that both she and Ilin have had their visa applications approved and will be in Madison, Wisconsin, to compete.

According to ustraveldocs.com, Khrennikov would need to apply for a “P” work visa as an athlete. In addition to an application and supporting documentation, a consular officer would interview the athlete, in this case Khrennikov, and is to “consider professional, social, cultural and other factors during adjudication.” In addition, family situations, long-range plans and prospects within the athlete’s home country are also taken into consideration.

Khrennikov, who earned an invite to the CrossFit Games this year, qualified via the Dubai CrossFit Championship.
