The first wave of individual invites to compete at the CrossFit Regionals went out last week. Athletes had until this past Monday to accept or decline their spot at regionals. Following the deadline, CrossFit sent out a second wave of invites to fill out the individual competition.

For athletes outside the top 20 (or 30 in Europe/Australian and 10 in Africa/Asia/Latin America), that meant a renewed opportunity to advance to the next stage of competition. Additional invites were sent out based on the number of athletes in each region that elected to go team or declined.

This second wave means that CrossFit Games veterans like Jordan Cook, Graham Holmberg, Cody Anderson and Val Voboril have the opportunity to continue their 2017 season. It also means that the team leaderboard will continue to move as athletes who accept an individual invite are removed from their team’s scores.

For the most part, each region had several athletes decline or go team. However, California experienced very high numbers of athletes going the team route. Seven additional invites were sent in Southern California and 11 were sent in Northern California. Of the 18, three have also indicated that they will be staying on a team.
