This event was made specifically for Sam Briggs, right? A five-round event with plenty of running and some grunt work…
The Sunday morning event in North Park is very similar to the 2015 Midline Madness event where athletes ran around the berm and then did a 50-foot yoke carry. In 2017, however, the yoke carry is replaced by a hay bale (it’s Madison) wall, sandbags and burpees.
Here are the details:
5 rounds of time of:
Run 450 meters
11 hay bale clean burpees
M 100-lb. sandbag F 70-lb. sandbag
Time Cap: 20 minutes
The hay bale clean burpees involve an athlete picking up the heavy sandbag, throwing it over the hay bale wall, doing a burpee and jumping over the hay bale wall. Repeat 10 more times.
Looking back at the Midline Madness event will give us some favorites to look out for (excluding the rookies since they didn’t compete). Like we said, Briggs won easily in 2015. Behind her was Kristin Holte, Anna Tunnicliffe and Margaux Alvarez. Katrin Davidsdottir and Tia-Clair Toomey took 5th and 6th, respectively, while Sara Sigmundsdottir placed 9th.
On the men’s side, Jacob Heppner won, but he’s not competing this year. Mat Fraser took 2nd place followed by Rob Forte in 3rd and Bjorgvin Gudmundsson in 5th. Ben Smith ended up taking 7th in the event.
