Tia-Clair Toomey to Compete at 2016 Rio Olympics

The Australian Weightlifting Federation (AWF) announced yesterday that Tia-Clair Toomey and Simplice Ribouem will be representing Australia at the 2016 Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in August.

Toomey’s performances at the 2015 Australian Open and 2016 Oceania Championships set her atop the women’s qualification table for the Olympics. Toomey competed in the CrossFit Pacific Regional on May 13-15 finishing in 2nd place to earn a spot to the CrossFit Games in Carson, California. Two weeks later, Toomey won the 58kg weight class at the Oceania Championships with an 85 / 109 // 194 total to secure her spot to compete in Rio.

Toomey will compete at the CrossFit Games July 22-24 and then at the Olympic Games beginning on August 6.
