The 2017 CrossFit Games Affiliate Cup champions Wasatch CrossFit might be a one-and-done. The team led by Adrian Conway was the first to dethrone the two-time defending champs, CrossFit Mayhem.

But in an Instagram post by Conway yesterday, he closes his post by saying that there may not be a team to defend their title. “I can’t say we will have a team to defend the cup next year but if so I’d be honored to throw down with them and the rest of 38 teams that showed up,” said Conway.

This picture is cool, but I’m enraged. And this is kind of a rant. Literally the only moment all weekend I physically wanted to lose it. If you saw the event you know why. The point of this post is to say no one wants to take the backseat….ever. And congratulate to @crossfitmayhemfreedom for the week of competition. They set the standard, it was an honor to chase them all year. @richfroning and their whole team were great to banter with and have fun with all weekend. We joked about the #stopthemayhem , how people reacted to it, and what was being said, it was fun. They are COMPETITORS. You want them to look and be happy about second place? Grow up. He and the whole team congratulated us all! Anyone content with losing never truly EXPECTED to win, and winners expect to win. Rich was thinking about ways to improve the team and to not let this happen again immediately, that’s what winners do. I know this will fuel their fire and I hope it does, I can’t say we will have a team to defend the cup next year but if so I’d be honored to throw down with them and the rest of 38 teams that showed up. And please believe if we do there will be another hashtag that emerges…. maybe… #ComeAndTakeIt 😜. @reebok @crossfitgames @crossfit @brute.strength #reebokathlete #wearitonyoursleeve #passion #fire #rage #crossfitgame

In a recent inteview on the Brute Strength podcast, Conway shared how the team came together late last year. He commented that the idea started as a concept and slowly the team members latched on to the idea of competing as a team.

Of course Conway’s post came only a day after winning the title so it’s likely the team had not discussed anything outside of winning the 2017 CrossFit Games. There is still plenty of time for the team to get back to Utah, reflect on the past year and then make a decision about 2018.
