THE SPIN’s very own Tyler Watkins underwent some VO2 testing and John Wood breaks it all down in his recent video.
All of this starts at the 18:36 mark in the video below. The first 18 minutes is John talking about his workouts. pfft.
Tell us about Tyler’s VO2…
The good news is that Tyler’s VO2 max is 54, which is good. Tyler’s Ventilatory Threshold 1 (VT1) is 110, which according to John, is absolute trash. Essentially Tyler starts to fatigue really early. In other words, “he’s not very good at lower intensity work.”
But on the other end of the spectrum, Tyler’s Ventilatory Threshold 2 (VT2) is 175. When compared to his max heart rate of 179, that’s excellent. Tyler is essentially able to manage fatigue very well at high-intensity…like a CrossFit workout.
John classifies Tyler as a “stereotypical CrossFit athlete”. Tyler is really good at working out at high intensity. But lower intensity, easy exercise, he struggles more than he should. Kinda like dumbbell overhead walking lunges.
Case in point…
