USA Weightlifting announced the locations for the 2016 and 2017 American Open earlier this week. Orlando, Florida, will host the 2016 event and Anaheim, California, will host 2017. The American Open is the largest USA Weightlifting event each year as over 950 athletes competed in Salt Lake City in 2015.
The 2016 event will be held at the Orlando World Center Marriott, the largest Mariott in the world, on December 8-11, 2016. The 2017 event will take place in the Anaheim Convention Center from December 7-10, 2017.
Sean Waxman, LWC President for the Southern California area said, “Southern California is looking forward to the return of the American Open in 2017. The American Open was previously held in Palm Springs in 2012, and we are delighted to once again host in our area after a five year absence.”
In addition to the announcement, USA Weightlifting confirmed that Eleiko Sport will continue to be the official barbell of the American Open.
