Following the IWF Jury overturning the decision made by the referees in the +105kg weight class competition at the 2016 Rio Olympics, Behdad Salimi and the National Olympic Committee of the Islamic Republic of Iran filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Salimi’s second clean and jerk attempt at 245kg was initially ruled a good lift by the three referees, but the IWF Jury overturned the decision.
The CAS held a hearing on August 20, 2016. The CAS rejected the appeal citing the decision was a “field-of-play decision” and that there was no evidence that the IWF Jury decision was made in bad faith. The hearing lasted 56 minutes.
