CJ Cummings (69kg weight class) has done it again, this time in Penang, Malaysia. Cummings, who set a Youth World Record in the Clean and Jerk at the 2016 IWF Junior World Championships in June, improved upon his 180kg record with a successful 182kg Clean and Jerk on his 2nd attempt.
Cummings went 2-for-3 on the snatch hitting 135kg. He missed 138kg on his 3rd attempt. Cummings held a 2kg advantage over Ferhat Yazici (TUR) heading into the clean and jerk portion. All of the lifters had attempted their three lifts before Cummings’ opener at 172kg.
Cummings made it look easy and secured the gold medal. Then he loaded 182kg onto the bar to break his own world record. Cummings made the lift and did not attempt his 3rd clean and jerk. Cummings finished with a 317kg total, the same as in Tbilisi in June.
