Crystal Riggs accepted a 6-month suspension after failing an in-competition drug test conducted by the United States Anti-Doping Association (USADA) at the 2016 National Championships. Riggs tested positive for furosemide, a Diuretic and Masking Agent that can be used to hide the use of performance enhancing drugs.

Riggs stated she was taking the drug as part of a prescription, a claim USADA accepts. However, Riggs was taking the medication without a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE).

Riggs’ ineligibility began on June 10, 2016 and she will be reinstated on December 10, 2016. Riggs placed 9th in the 75kg weight class at the 2016 National Championships.
