IWF Confirms Doping Violation Sanctions of Three Athletes At 2016 Rio Olympics

On Thursday, the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) confirmed that three athletes violated anti-doping rules. One of the athletes, Tomasz Zielinski (Poland), did not participate in the Olympics as a result of the doping violation. Zielinski tested positive for norandrosterone, an anabolic agent.

Izzat Artykov (Kyrgyzstan) originally won the bronze medal in the Men’s 69kg weight class, but his results have been disqualified. Artykov tested positive for strychnine, an S6 stimulant. Luis Javier Mosquera (Colombia) earned 3rd place following Artykov’s disqualification.

Chagnaadorj Usukhbayar (Mongolia) failed to record a successful snatch attempt in the Men’s 56kg weight class. Usukhbayar failed his drug test as he tested positive for testosterone.

Gabriel Sincraian (Romania) took 3rd place in the Men’s 77kg weight class, but has tested positive for testosterone. The IWF has yet to make a final decision on any sanctions for Sincraian at this time.
