The 8th bodyweight category for women was brought up during the International Weightlifting Federation’s (IWF) Executive Board meeting in Tbilisi during the 2016 IWF Junior World Championships. Dr. Tamas Ajan, IWF President, continued the discussion when he brought it up to all of the IWF bodies while at the Rio Olympics.
The IWF bodies involved were [1] Technical Committee, [2] Medical Committee, [3] Coaching and Research Committee, [4] Athlete’s Commision and [5] Women’s Commission.
The IWF Secretariat will compile data and further the proposal that will presented to the IWF Executive Board at its upcoming meeting.
