On Tuesday, Kathleen Winters and Kelly Rexroad-Williams were the first Team USA athletes to take the platform. Competing the 48kg weight class, Winters missed her opening snatch attempt at 72kg, but rebounded and hit 72kg and then 75kg on her next two lifts. Her 75kg snatch tied Amanda Braddock (CAN), but Braddock’s weigh-in was lower than Winters pushing Winters into 4th place.

During the clean and jerk, Winters opened with 90kg, the 3rd highest opening lift. After successfully lifting 90kg, she hit 92kg on her second attempt. Just like the snatch, Winters was battling with Braddock. With one attempt remaining, Winters found herself again tied with Braddock at 92kg on the clean and jerk. Winters’ set her last attempt at 93kg knowing a successful lift would give her a bronze medal in the clean and jerk and the total. Winters nailed her 93kg last attempt securing two bronze medals.

Rexroad-Williams went 3-for-3 in the snatch finishing with a 70kg lift, good for 5th place. She went 2-for-3 in the clean and jerk finishing with an 86kg lift and a 156kg total for 6th place overall.

Ana Segura Segura (COL) won the gold medal via a tiebreak with Candida Vasquez Hernandez (DOM) as both totaled 181kg.
