
The British Olympic Association announced that Rebekah Tiler (69kg) and Sonny Webster (94kg) will represent Great Britain at the 2016 Olympics in Rio. Tiler is only 17 years old, but is the reigning British Champion and holds two British records. Webster is 22 years old and is also the British Champion.
At the 2016 European Championships, Tiler took the bronze medal with a 99-123-222 total. Webster placed 15th in the 94kg weight class with a 149-185-334 total.
Following the announcement, Tiler said, “I am so excited and honoured to be representing Team GB in Rio this summer; it’s a dream come true and something I’ve wanted ever since I got into the sport.
“The next few weeks of preparation are so important and thanks to the support from UK Sport & British Weight Lifting, I’m 100% focused on ensuring that I’m in the best possible condition heading into Rio and I can’t wait to go out there and do my best!”
