According to TASS, the Russian News Agency, Sergei Syrtsov is stepping down as president of the Russian Weightlifting Federation (RWF). Syrtsov has been president since 2010.
During an interview with TASS, Syrtsov said that someone must be held accountable for the 2016 Rio Olympics weightlifting ban and the seven adverse analytical findings as a result of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) reanalysis testing of 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games samples. According to Syrtsov, Maxim Agapitov will take over as president of the RWF.
Syrtsov was a weightlifer himself and was the 1991 and 1994 world champion. During the course of his career, Syrtsov set seven world records. The video above is Syrtsov’s world record snatch at the 1994 IWF World Weightlifting Championships.
