In an interview with Russian News Agency, TASS, Vladimir Shainov said that two Russian weightlifters, Marina Shainova and Nadezhda Evstyukhina, tested positive for doping during the IOC retesting program. Shainov is Shainova’s coach stated that they have not yet received official documentation of the positive test result, but that he fully expects that both athletes will lose their 2008 Olympic medals and will be suspended.
Shainov claims that Shainova tested positive for Turinabol, an anabolic steroid. Per steroid.com, Turinabol “significantly promotes muscular endurance”, will help an athlete feel less beat up after a season’s worth of training, and increase power and speed. Turinabol is no longer manufactured by pharmaceutical companies.
Shainova won the silver medal in the 58kg weight class and Evstyukhina won the bronze medal in the 75kg weight class at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
