The 2024 European Championships, scheduled for Sunday, September 22, have been cancelled. But while the competition has been cancelled, the organizers have not notified anyone that the event will not be happening.
In a video published by Jason C F Media this afternoon, he goes into detail on what has happened thus far with the competition.
The 2024 European Championships set up a qualifier structure leading up to the finals next weekend. From an online qualifier to two regional events, athletes had the opportunity to qualify for the “TEC Finals”.
The April Regional event occurred and appeared to be successful. But then the July Regional event to be held in Sheffield was cancelled days before the competition, citing logistical issues.
A look at The European Championships’ Instagram account shows that the last post was made on July 21, six days before that regional qualifier was to occur.
ATEC employee, Jonny Walker shared that the July event had been canceled in a UK CrossFit Competitions Facebook Group. He says he was removed from the team when she disagreed with the owner, Ian Constable, on how and when to notify athletes that the July qualifier was going to be canceled.
Furthermore, as Jason explains in the video below, several have reached out to the venue, Lee Valley Athletics Centre, asking about the event. They have been told that the event has been canceled by the organizers.
Yet, the organizers have not shared this information with anyone involved – athletes, spectators, volunteers or vendors. So while the event is still technically on the schedule, all signs point to event being canceled.
As for the registration fees paid by athletes, those have yet to be returned to the athletes.

If The European Championships sound familiar, it is because they were in the headlines back in 2022 when they failed to payout the podium finishers. Following that, the then-organizers looked for someone to takeover the competition.
In November 2022, The European Championships found a new organizer, 10X Athletic. The new organizers hosted an event in 2023.
But now, a year later and it looks like The European Championships are back to their old habits.
