The French Throwdown has been around since 2012. During that time it has hosted a community event every year. It has also been a Sanctional competition and last year it was the home to the Europe Semifinal for the CrossFit Games.
The dates and a new venue location have been announced for the 2025 French Throwdown. It will once again be a three-day competition, but a week earlier than this past year. The competition will be held May 9-11, 2025.
The Sud de France Arena in the Montpellier suburb of Pérols, Hérault. The arena, which opened in 2010, can seat around 10,000 for sporting events. Montpellier is about 300km (186 miles) south of the the LDLC Arena in Lyon where the 2024 competition took place.
The announcement comes as rumors are swirling about the season structure for the 2025 CrossFit Games season. While we know that CrossFit is working towards a 2025 season, no official announcement has been made yet.
However, there are rumors that in-person Semifinals could be eliminated and replaced by an online qualification process and/or Sanctional-like competitions that are used to qualify athletes for the 2025 CrossFit Games.
At the moment it appears that the French Throwdown will not be tied to the 2025 CrossFit Games season, but we will find out more when CrossFit begins to lay out the season structure later this year.
