The World Fitness Project hosted Tour Stop 2 this weekend at Grand Park Sports Complex in Westfield, Indiana. Fifty men and 50 women competed this weekend in the final opportunity to accrue points to qualify for the WFP Finals this December.
James Sprague and Emma Tall would win the men’s and women’s divisions, respectively. However, their wins were overshadowed by injuries.
Many athletes injured themselves during the 40-yard dash in Event 1. Pulled hamstrings was the primary culprit. Later that day Pat Vellner tore his Achilles on Event 2. To add insult to injury, the Flipsled landed on his other foot after the injury.
Then, the next day Roman Khrennikov was winning the 10k run before stopping with a calf injury just 500 meters from the finish line. Khrennikov would withdraw following that injury.
Quinn Robinson would also go down on Saturday. Robinson tore his pec during a 342-pound bench press attempt.
In total, six men and one woman withdrew from the competition. Athletes like Sam Cournoyer stayed in the competition despite hurting his hamstring in Event 1 to accumulate more points in an effort to remain in the top 30 and qualify for the Finals.
Despite all of this, Sprague and Tall would go on to win and take home $35,000.
