Athletes Competing in IWF World Championships Can Participate in CrossFit Liftoff

The 2017 CrossFit Liftoff, powered by Rogue Fitness, begins November 30 and runs through December 4. The 2017 IWF World Championships in Anaheim, California begin November 28 and run through December 5.

Because the two overlap, CrossFit announced that it will accept competition lifts from athletes competing at the IWF World Championships as valid submissions for the CrossFit Liftoff. So not only will you be competing against some of the top CrossFitters in the world, you will also be competing against the top Olympic Weightlifters in the world.

The current IWF World Championship schedule shows several weight categories competing outside the CrossFit Liftoff competition window. Most notably, the women’s +90kg and men’s +105kg weight categories take the platform on December 5, the day after the Liftoff score submissions close. It is unclear whether these lifts would be accepted by CrossFit.

The 2017 CrossFit Liftoff is the 3rd year for the weightlifting/CrossFit competition. Prizes are awarded to the top lifters of the two Olympic lifts along with an overall winner who also completes a CrossFit metcon. The two prior years saw professional Olympic weightlifters walk away with the weightlifting-specific prizes while the top CrossFit athletes competed for the overall prize.

Good luck…
