Carla Cornejo Plascencia officially received a 4-year sanction from CrossFit on August 5, 2024, after testing positive for a banned substance while competing at the 2024 CrossFit North America West Semifinal. Cornejo and her team, CrossFit Complex Wodex, had finished in 3rd place at the Semifinal and had qualified for the CrossFit Games…until Cornejo’s drug test came back.
Cornejo appealed the findings, but after review CrossFit handed down a 4-year sanction from all CrossFit licensed competitions.
This weekend Cornejo traveled to Guadalajara, Mexico, for the 2024 FSC Competition. It is largest team competition in Mexico.
The team competition was a 3-person team with two males and one female on each team. Cornejo teamed up with Luis Oscar Mora and Ricardo Garcia.
Also on the competition floor was Alec Smith, Michelle Basnett and Nick Andre. They competed as Team USA.
Because the FSC Competition is not a CrossFit-licensed event, Cornejo is not banned from competing and it is up to the discretion of the competition organizers.
And after seven scored events over two days, Cornejo and her team, Complex Lomm, stood atop the podium. The team won five of the seven events on their way to an easy victory.
Team USA only had one event win and narrowly held onto third place overall. Green CCC (Eduardo Macias, Joaquin Rodriguez and Daniela Rico Cabrera) took 2nd place.
For Smith, it was his first time back on the competition floor for a CrossFit event after receiving stem cell injections six months ago for a hip injury.
