The Hybricon Games is the self-proclaimed “Championship for Hybrid Athletes” designed to find the “World’s Toughest Athlete”. Founded in 2023, the 2024 Hybricon Games headed out to Catalina Island for a three-day competition over the weekend. After 16 scored events, Emily Rethwill won the women’s division while Preston Pavlica took 1st place in the men’s division.
Events this year included a max deadlift and Strongman Medley in addition to events like Flag Racing, Pole Wrestling and a Sumo Battle.Â
Unfortunately, this year’s competition was not live streamed (2023’s competition was) so honestly I have no idea what some of the events actually consisted of, or how the scoring worked for certain events.
But at the end of Sunday, the athletes headed onto a boat for the awards ceremony. Yes, a boat!
CrossFit Games team veteran Emily Rethwill won the women’s division. Fellow Invictus training partner Lauren Stallwood took 2nd place and Faith Cooke rounded out the podium in 3rd place.
On the men’s side, Preston Pavlica stood atop the podium. Last year’s Hybricon Games champion, Phil Muscarella, took 2nd place and Jake Gibbs finished in 3rd place.
