In the 2nd year of the Tough Mudder X, more CrossFit athletes came out to compete. Last season, Jenn Dancer was the only well-known CrossFit athlete to podium. This year was a different story. Central Regional athlete Emma Chapman was able to win the final heat this past Friday to finish 1st overall and take home $25,000.
Chapman was not the only CrossFit athlete on the podium either. Corinna Coffin has made a name for herself in the OCR (Obstacle Course Racing) circuit, but Coffin is going to the 2018 CrossFit Games on Salt Lake City CrossFit Black’s team. Coffin finished 1st at last year’s Tough Mudder X. And in 3rd place, now 5-time CrossFit Games athlete Cassidy-Lance McWherter took the final podium spot.
On the men’s side, Hunter McIntyre was untouchable. McIntyre finished an entire minute ahead of 2nd place, Jacob Heppner. Heppner has qualified for the CrossFit Games three times, but after missing the last two years he has used his #capacity to give a run at Tough Mudder X. In 3rd place, Dakota Rager, another CrossFit Games athlete, rounded out the podium. Patrick Vellner finished just off the podium in 4th.
CBS will be airing three episodes in July recapping the day’s qualifying heats as well as the final men’s and women’s events. Until then, here are more photos from the event…
