Peg boards were first introduced at the 2015 CrossFit Games. That didn’t go so well. Nine years later and peg boards aren’t a problem for the top athletes in the sport. Even legless pegboards have been programmed.
At this year’s Rogue Invitational, the peg board is going to be flipped on its side.
In an Instagram post by Caity Henniger, Carolyne Prevost is shown traversing a pegboard that is attached to the Zeus rig. The horizontal peg board is actually three peg boards lined up next to year other. The caption, “Coming soon…. #ryourogue”.
But while most probably haven’t seen the horizontal peg board, it was actually programmed at the 2022 ELFIT CrossFit Championship.
The workout, Jingle Bells, featured double kettlebell hang clean & jerks, rope climbs, legless rope climbs and ended with three horizontal peg board traverses. Brent Fikowski won the event followed by Ruan Potgeiter.
The pegboard, however, was much shorter than what Rogue has in store for the athletes…
ELFIT programmed horizontal peg boards again in 2023. This time it was combined with burpee box get-overs, dual kettlebell deadlifts and a dual kettlebell front rack walking lunge. Ruan Potgeiter won on the men’s side. Hattie Kanyo took 3rd in the elite women’s division.
So while the horizontal peg board will be a new obstacle for many, it has been programmed in competitions before. And for Brent Fikowski, it won’t be his first rodeo.
