The 2023 Down Under Championship kicks off this Friday at Win Stadium in Wollongong, NSW. The three-day competition is the biggest off-season competition in Australia and will feature elite individuals and teams, adaptive athletes, teens and masters and intermediate teams.
The elite individuals are stacked with athletes who competed at Semifinals last year and are headlined by CrossFit Games rookies Jake Douglas and Emily de Rooy. The elite teams also have several big name teams with 2023 individual Games athletes including Ricky Garard, Noah Ohlsen, Chandler Smith, Jay Crouch and Bayley Martin.
In total, 22 men and 20 women are slated to compete in the elite individual divisions this weekend. Jake Douglas and Emily de Rooy are the only two 2023 individual Games athletes in the field, but seven men and 10 women competed in individual Semifinal competitions last year. In addition, Marnie Sykes and late addition Taylor Williamson both were on teams at the 2023 CrossFit Games.
With quite a few up and coming athletes, the Down Under Championship should provide some great insight into who might make some noise in the 2024 CrossFit Games season.
Here’s a look at the elite men’s and women’s field along with some notable teams competing this weekend.
