The final event Saturday afternoon at the 2024 Rogue Invitational was The Duel IV, an elimination-style event featuring 5 Up and Over “Hay Bales”, a 50-foot sled push and 4 Power Stair Steps. The event, however, was marred by a pair of injuries suffered on the Up and Over Hay Bale movement.
Gabriela Migala was the first athlete to stop mid-event after coming down from the hay bale. In Round 3, Migala was rebounding on her fourth up-and-over and came down gingerly. She would not continue the remainder of the heat.
Migala was attended to by the medical team who helped her off the competition floor. Migala is the second from the top in the gif below.
At this time it has not been confirmed but all signs point to an Achilles tear.
Migala entered the event in 2nd place. Even with the injury, Migala took 10th place in the event and currently is in 3rd place overall. However, if Migala is unable to continue the competition she will slide down the leaderboard.
Migala was not the only athlete to succumb to injury on Event 6. Henrik Haapalainen also came down from one of the up-and-overs and stopped. For Haapalainen, he has confirmed that it is most likely an Achilles rupture via an Instagram story.
In speaking with Haapalainen after the event, he told The Barbell Spin that while it has not been medically confirmed, he said he has spoken to friends who have experienced a similar injury and his symptoms are the same.
Following Haapalainen’s injury, Rogue modified the event to changed to burpee get overs to eliminate the rebounding between reps.
The competition would continue and Gui Malheiros would outpace Brent Fikowski in the final “duel” round.
