A lot has changed in the sport of CrossFit over the past five years. The men and women have gotten faster, stronger, more athletic and the tests have gotten more challenging to push the athletes further than they ever thought possible.
The last event of Day 1 proves just this. A full marathon, 42,195 meters on a Concept 2 rower inside the Coliseum. And all of it after three events earlier in the day.

There are 14 athletes, however, that have stood the test of time and competed back in 2013 and are still among the fittest in the world in 2018. These nine women and five men are listed below, along with their placement on the half marathon row.
Women
Margaux Alvarez (2nd)
Katrin Davidsdottir (7th)
Becca Voigt (11th)
Alessandra Pichelli (12th)
Jennifer Smith (17th)
Dani Horan (26th)
Kara Saunders (27th)
Camille Leblanc-Bazinet (41st)
Cassidy Lance-McWherter (43rd)
Men
Roy Gamboa (5th)
Frederik Aegidius (15th)
Scott Panchik (16th)
Josh Bridges (17th)
Ben Smith (23rd)
The Half Marathon Row was a bit of a different animal back in 2013 when Castro made the first 2,000 meters a separate scored event before the athletes settled into their 21k pace. But it does show there are a handful of athletes who did well at the half marathon row when that was considered a really, really long time on a rower.
Things have changed and the athletes have adapted, but don’t be surprised if you see some of the same athletes listed above in the hunt this evening.
